BIOGRAPHY
A Brief Art Background
Self-taught from my teenage years. I worked every school holiday and by 16, had my first professional Nikon film camera and darkroom for print making.
However more recently, I decided on a formal educational foundation by completing the Photography and Digital Imaging Diploma at Billy Blue College of Design, Torrens University, Sydney.
On a personal level, at heart I’m an aesthetic. I love beauty and I've always had a natural passion for art. I pursue exhibitions, both local and international, and I devour as many books by master photographers and artists, fashion, and visual art publications as possible.
After a lifetime, I'm probably even more dedicated to exploring new frontiers by research, trial, and experimentation.
Back to my early years, by 18 I'd had my first acceptance in an international exhibition that toured Europe. I was proud being the only name in the catalogue on the page for Australia.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My Art Philosophy
I’m often inspired by a place and a time that sparks an emotion – a memory from my past or a vision from my heroes. Finding an inspirational location is a matter of discipline and persistence. Once found, it’s photographed at that time. I’ll return to capture its ambiance, being there as and when it needs to be seen. Lighting is paramount, so that needs to be perfected whether at dawn, dusk, or by artificial light. I may introduce people to compliment or contrast, and to tell their story. The result is an invitation to the viewer to interpret what they see through their eyes and their experience.
Some artwork is about an object of beauty seen differently through my eyes. Beauty comes from colour, composition, lines and form. It may be abstract or create a sense of mystery. The image must be captivating and mesmerising.
I believe art has the responsibility to be worthy of being on your wall, or in a publication. It must be timeless, engaging and above all it must give enduring pleasure and connection to the viewer.
