This striking photographic artwork reimagines Frida Kahlo as a solemn Madonna Mary, draped in an opulent regal gown. She cradles a life-like infant Jesus, whose serenity contrasts with the heavy symbolism surrounding them. Hovering vividly between mother and child is an anatomically detailed bleeding heart, a powerful emblem of both divine love and Kahlo's signature themes of physical and emotional pain. In the background, the peak of a symbolic Mount under a dramatic, stormy sky, bridges sacred biblical history with a raw surrealist aesthetic. For this work the heart, the arteries and the blood are painted by the artist Gabriella Brushella.
