In this interpretation of Frida Kahlo's classic Fruits of the Earth there is a surreal blending of motifs and the iconic symbolism of raw emotional pain. The vulnerable heart rests directly against the rich, textures of fruit, creating a striking tension between life-giving nourishment and personal suffering. A dramatic granular cloudscape looms in the background, mirroring the stormy internal landscape that defined Kahlo's life and art. For this work, the photography is worked, reworked and layered, and each heart is painted by the artist Gabriella Brushella.
