The Two Fridas’ is considered one of Frida Kahlo’s most notable paintings, it is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated works of art of the 20th century, a symbol of Frida’s life and legacy, and a testament to the power of art to move and inspire us. The original large scale oil painting captures what Frida felt at the time, desperation and loneliness following her separation from Diego, political turmoil in the midst of a revolution, struggles with her own identity, sense of self, and the duality that exists within all of us. This artwork, reimagined, pays homage to the incomparable Frida. Named ‘Doy Mi Corázon. I Give You My Heart re tells the tension and connection between the two Fridas whilst portraying the mal barrio’s of Mexico in the foreground; and juxtaposed by the lush forest of Franz Joseph Glacier in the background. For this work, one model represents the two Frida’s, the photography is worked, reworked and layered, and each heart, the arteries and the blood are painted by the artist Gabriella Brushella.
