BIO

Photography can be so many different things.  I’ve been influenced by many masters and great artists, so I cover a range of things.  But there’s some threads that hold it all together.  For me, it’s about aesthetics, emotion, a story or just a visual journey.

Combining the elements of composition, colour and narrative to create an atmosphere and an emotion is the holy grail.  The final interpretation belongs to you, the viewer.

My Tribute to Frida project is a recent departure in which I use montage, intense body language and a juxtaposition of beauty and tension to question and challenge my audience.

My Art Philosophy

I’m often inspired by a place and a time that sparks an emotion – a memory from my past or a vision from my heroes. Finding an inspirational location is a matter of discipline and persistence. Once found, it’s photographed at that time. I’ll return to capture its ambiance, being there as and when it needs to be seen. Lighting is paramount, so that needs to be perfected whether at dawn, dusk, or by artificial light. I may introduce people to compliment or contrast, and to tell their story. The result is an invitation to the viewer to interpret what they see through their eyes and their experience.

Some artwork is about an object of beauty seen differently through my eyes. Beauty comes from colour, composition, lines and form. It may be abstract or create a sense of mystery. The image must be captivating and mesmerising.

I believe art has the responsibility to be worthy of being on your wall, or in a publication. It must be timeless, engaging and above all it must give enduring pleasure and connection to the viewer.
